Which teams have been "Super clutch" in the 2nd half of the season compared to their first half? The 1st scenario where a team comes back from behind (or tied) in the late innings to win the game. We explore which team improves the most in the 2nd half of the season with this scenario. The 2nd scenario where a team comes back from behind at ANY point (not just the late innings) in the game to win the game. We also explore which team improves the most in the 2nd half of the season with this scenario.
2. The Clutch Teams who are most improved in wOBA (Weighted on-base average) in the late innings (7th inning to the end of the game) of the 2nd half of the season compared to the first half of the season
What is wOBA? This site here explains it. What he says:
"Note: I love OBP. I think it is an incredibly valuable stat. Essentially, it tells you who is good at getting on base. wOBA attempts to measure the quality of the way in which players get on base; getting on base by singling is better than a walk because a single had the possibility of moving runners up by more than one base."
This site says the following:
Weighted On-Base Average (wOBA) is one of the most important and popular catch-all offensive statistics. It was created by Tom Tango (and notably used in “The Book”) to measure a hitter’s overall offensive value, based on the relative values of each distinct offensive event.
We extend study 1 above by looking at which teams have the best improvement in "getting on base to make things happen" in the 2nd half of the season (over their first half of the season) from the 7th inning on to the end of the game. Why? Because these teams also can be considered Super Clutch/Devil Magic as they make things happen in the 2nd half of the season (which can push them into the playoffs).
4. 2017 thru 2019 seasons in the AL As baseball fans, it has been an eventful (albeit not happy) offseason of news with the recent events in Houston and some other news. So I decided to look a little into that and apply that to the scenarios to see how they and the other teams fared.
